How Did I Become A Health Coach?

Becoming a health coach was not something that I always knew I wanted to do. The opportunity presented itself over the years. In my early twenties, I became curious about health and wellness. At that time, I suffered from severe allergies and asthma, which limited my ability to enjoy outdoor activities. My frustration propelled me to seek solutions. I poured myself into reading everything I could get my hands on, learning about cause and effect, natural solutions, and balanced living. Eventually, friends and family started reaching out to me with their health and wellness questions. If I didn’t have an answer for them, I researched, asked experts, and read books until I had enough information to shed light on how they could help themselves feel better.

I found myself frequenting my neighborhood health food store where I learned about nutritious foods and natural remedies. I became fascinated by how, given a chance, the body will heal itself. The more I learned, the more I understood that true wellness requires paying attention to the mind, body, and spirit connection. As a result, I learned about and practiced Yoga. Soon my mental state and physical body began to transform. By getting in touch with my breath and moving my body through different yoga postures, I noticed new ways to handle life’s many stressors. What really resonated with me was how I felt after class. I would arrive to class wheezing but by the end, I was breathing more easily and more deeply.

Little by little, I noticed the positive effects of these lifestyle changes. I felt less congested, my asthma symptoms began to lessen and I felt better, lighter, and happier. This healthy lifestyle became a part of me. Living well, feeling well, having more energy, and a deeper connection to nature and self, were all things I wanted to share. This led me to enroll in teacher training at Integral Yoga Institute in Manhattan, where, in 2012, I received my Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT®) 200 Hour Certification. And, a few years later, I enrolled and graduated from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, and became a Certified Holistic Health Coach. I’ve since received certifications as a (RYT®) 500 Hour Yoga and Registered Prenatal Yoga Teacher (RYPT®).

my story

Many of my adult years were spent as a hairstylist and salon owner. As a small business owner and entrepreneur, I designed and managed three salons. Even in this role, I used natural products free from harsh chemicals wherever I could. More recently, I worked in corporate affairs and event planning for a membership nonprofit as well as sales and marketing. Eventually, I knew I wanted to find an opportunity that married my entrepreneurial spirit with my passion - helping others find health and balance.

As a mom, I know the challenge of creating healthy, balanced meals that my child would eat. Everyday, children are bombarded with advertisements of sugar-laden foods and quick, unhealthy snacks that seem far more appealing than healthy options. But, by planning ahead and being creative and flexible, my daughter and I have created a comfortable balance that ensures she is getting the right nutrition to support her body and mind. I’d like to help you to achieve a similar balance in your life.
